American country music legend Kenny Rogers has passed away at the age of 81

CNN reported that Kenny Rogers, the iconic American country music singer with a legendary career spanning nearly six decades, has passed away at the age of 81.

The singer’s family announced his passing on Kenny Rogers’ verified Twitter account. He died on the night of March 20, 2020 (U.S. time) of natural causes at a hospice in Colbert, Georgia, with his family by his side.

“Kenny Rogers left an indelible mark on American music history. His songs captivated music lovers and touched the lives of millions around the world,” his publicist Keith Hagan told CNN.

Kenny Rogers released over 120 singles, many of which topped music charts in various countries. Throughout his illustrious career, he sold more than 165 million records worldwide. In a 1986 joint poll conducted by USA Today and People magazine, he was voted “The Favorite Singer of All Time.”

He received numerous awards, including American Music Awards (AMAs), Country Music Association Awards, Grammy Awards, and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003 for his contributions to music. Some of his most iconic hits include Lady, Lucille, We Got Tonight, Islands in the Stream, and Through the Years. His legendary song The Gambler, released in 1976, inspired several television films.

“Country music has lost the great Kenny Rogers, a man who will forever leave his mark on the history of the genre,” stated a representative of the Country Music Association.
