Introduction
The 60 Minutes Australia YouTube video, “Elvis Presley’s history with 14-year-old girls,” explores the previously hidden aspect of Elvis Presley’s relationships with young teenage girls, particularly those aged 14, throughout his life, even into his late 30s.
The program features interviews with women, now in their 60s, 70s, and 80s, such as Francis Forbes and Sandy Farah (now Marale), who dated Elvis when they were 14 years old. They describe these relationships as non-sexual, involving kissing and spending time at Graceland, and recall Elvis as a gentleman. They also state that, at the time, the age gap was not considered unusual, citing societal norms of the era.
Biographer Suzanne Finstad, who wrote a biography on Priscilla Presley, reveals that Priscilla was not the only 14-year-old Elvis was involved with and that he had a “proclivity for teenage girls” that continued until he was around 40. Finstad suggests that Elvis’s early fame may have led to “arrested emotional development” and that he confided in Priscilla about feeling “tremendous pressure to perform sexually” as “the King” and sex symbol. He reportedly felt “more comfortable” and “more sexually authoritative” with “inexperienced girls” who “didn’t know any different.”
The video also highlights that Elvis was aware of the legal implications, reportedly telling the girls “14 will get you 20,” meaning he could face 20 years in prison. While the women interviewed still adore Elvis and cherish their memories, they concede that by today’s standards, such relationships would be “unthinkable” and illegal.
