Introduction
For over a decade, Agnetha Fältskog was one of pop music’s most recognizable stars as a member of ABBA. After the group disbanded in 1982, she stepped away from the spotlight and lived a relatively private life for more than 30 years. Now, she has returned to recording music.
In an interview, Agnetha discusses how her voice felt rusty at first, requiring vocal training to regain her technique. Her new single, “When You Really Loved Someone,” is a sad and emotional track, in line with her preference for romantic and melancholic music that tells a deep story.
She addresses misconceptions about her being a recluse or mysterious figure, explaining that after ABBA ended, the group was simply exhausted and needed time to recover. Although she was sometimes portrayed as the “black sheep” and unfairly blamed in the media for the group’s breakup, she clarifies that the decision to stop was mutual among all members.
Reflecting on ABBA’s past, she talks about the emotional challenges of singing “The Winner Takes It All” during her breakup with fellow band member Björn Ulvaeus. Despite the personal struggles behind the scenes, the group continued performing because they were committed to their work.
